Mumbai surgery ends Yastika Bhatia's World Cup dream

Indian wicketkeeper Yastika Bhatia underwent successful knee surgery at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital following an injury sustained during World Cup preparation in Visakhapatnam. Medical professionals completed the procedure without complications. The Board of Control for Cricket in India removed Bhatia from both the Australia ODI series and the upcoming World Cup squad. Uma Chetry received selection as Bhatia's replacement. The injured player expressed gratitude through social media posts while committing to rapid rehabilitation.

Bhatia demonstrated strong form during recent India A matches in Australia before her injury occurred. She recorded scores of 59, 66, and 42 across three matches during that tour. Her last ODI appearance happened in October 2024. The Women in Blue suffered a 1-2 series defeat against Australia. India begins World Cup competition against Sri Lanka on September 30 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati after completing warm-up fixtures against England and New Zealand.
