Mumbai's Zahaan Hemrajani makes history with top-10 finish at U17 sailing world championship

Mumbai sailor Zahaan Hemrajani achieved a historic top-10 finish at the U17 O'pen Skiff World Championships in Nishinomiya, Japan. The competition concluded Wednesday after running from July 17 through 23 under World Sailing supervision. Equipment problems hampered Hemrajani during his initial three races, placing him at a significant disadvantage. The teenager recovered remarkably by winning two races and placing among the top 10 competitors in nearly half his events. This performance represents the strongest showing by any Indian sailor in this particular class.

Hemrajani credited coach Umesh Naiksatam and the 24Seven Sailing Team for their support throughout his preparation. His parents Nilima and Ashish Hemrajani provided essential backing for his competitive sailing career. The Royal Bombay Yacht Club and Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre contributed to his athletic development. Maharashtra state government assistance enabled training access to Pawna Lake during monsoon season. This achievement establishes a new benchmark for Indian junior sailing on the international stage.
