Musasizi sweeps Rubanda in epic 503 vote blowout

Henry Musasizi won his second term as Rubanda District party leader. The finance minister received 503 votes from party members during the election, while his opponent, Diaz Drake Owoyesigyire, managed just 43 votes against him. Lawyer Jackson Tumweboneire failed to receive any support from delegates. Officials said Tumweboneire lacked proper delegate status for the contest.

Musasizi thanked voters for choosing him again as district chairman. He has served in this role since 2020 for two terms. The minister said his success led to the parliament elections and cabinet appointments. He reminded people that party leadership does not bring a salary or payment. Musasizi called for dedication and sacrifice to strengthen party support locally.

Jim Muhwezi won the Rukungiri District chairman race without opposition. His main challenger, Henry Tumukunde, quit the race over voting problems. Tumukunde said he remains committed to serving the Rukungiri people despite stepping away. Philemon Mateke claimed victory in Kisoro District at age 85. The veteran politician beat five other candidates with 689 votes.
