Museveni praises Teso’s peace role, vows more development

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni praised Teso residents for their role in achieving stability during a campaign stop in Amuria District. The National Resistance Movement leader credited local Arrow Boys militias with helping defeat Lord's Resistance Army forces at locations like Apopong and Anyara, declaring that security remains essential for all progress. His wife, Education and Sports Minister Janet Kataaha Museveni, joined him at the rally.

Museveni detailed infrastructure gains under his administration, noting completed highways linking Soroti to Katine and Karamoja, while pledging funds to connect Katine with Ochero. Two major routes from Soroti to Otuke and from Kumi to Bugondo still require construction. The president said 401 of 528 villages have boreholes and that Amuria Town Council serves more than 7,200 people through piped systems. Health facility upgrades will add three new Health Centre IIIs at Olwa, Abia, and Amolo, with a theater planned for Orungo.

Museveni urged remaining households to participate in commercial farming, services, industry, and technology sectors. He cited farmer Joseph Ijala as proof of agricultural transformation and handed party flags to parliamentary and council candidates before the upcoming elections.
