Museveni Seeks NRM Nomination and Pledges Five-Year Wealth Transformation

Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni collected nomination papers Saturday to run for party leader and seek another term as president. The longtime leader visited the National Resistance Movement headquarters in Kampala to file for both positions. Museveni said party members across Uganda asked him to continue leading during his recent tours of development programs. He promised to change the country's economic future over the next five years. The president wants voters to back his continued leadership.

Museveni arrived at the party offices around 1:30 pm with his wife Janet. Top government officials welcomed him at the building. Vice President Jessica Alupo and Parliament Speaker Anita Among joined the greeting party. Secretary General Richard Todwong also attended the event. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside to show their support.

Motorcycle taxi drivers wearing yellow shirts rode alongside the president's convoy. The riders created a celebration atmosphere near the party headquarters. Dr Tanga Odoi from the party's election committee gave Museveni the official forms. Odoi confirmed the president paid 40 million shillings for both contests. Each position costs 20 million shillings to enter.

Party rules require Museveni to return his completed forms before July 5. No other candidates have entered either race against him. Museveni told newly chosen district leaders to work honestly and fairly. He warned them against taking bribes or acting dishonestly. The president said all leaders must serve people without favoritism and keep their trust.
