President Yoweri Museveni announced that 172 of 209 villages in Nakapiripirit District receive safe water, achieving 82 percent coverage in the Karamoja region. Government data presented on Wednesday showed the district ranks among the highest for water access, as officials plan to address gaps in neighboring areas, such as Amudat and Abim.
The Water for Production program funded valley tanks holding between 20 million and 40 million liters at multiple sites. The Namalu irrigation project will store 11.8 billion liters of water and provide irrigation for 750 hectares in its initial phase, once construction advances beyond the planning stages.
Infrastructure development encompasses road networks that connect rural producers to commercial centers. District records indicate 10,300 households received 10.5 billion shillings through the Parish Development Model, while cooperative societies accessed 1.78 billion shillings.
