Mushtaq Ahmed backs his bowlers to defend 160 vs Afghanistan

Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed expressed confidence in his team's bowling capabilities before their Asia Cup encounter with Afghanistan at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Ahmed believes his squad can defend totals between 160 and 170 runs against their opponents. The coach emphasized the importance of squad belief and trust in closing out matches. He acknowledged Afghanistan's experienced spin department while highlighting Bangladesh's superior middle-order statistics. Ahmed noted that his spinners possess one of the world's best economy rates during crucial phases.

The coach addressed young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain's recent struggles after an expensive over against Sri Lanka. Ahmed advised Hossain to focus on his bowling process rather than the immediate results to rebuild confidence. He praised Afghanistan's veteran spinners for their extensive international experience spanning nearly two decades. Ahmed stressed that mental toughness and strong belief could help Bangladesh secure tournament qualification. The team maintains its focus on achieving victory in its upcoming match rather than looking ahead to later rounds.
