Mutare Bartender Dies in Generator Cable Shock

Agnes Mugayi lost her life when she touched exposed wires coming from a generator at work. The 58-year-old bartender from the Federation, Dangamvura, worked at a local drinking spot in Sakubva. Her brother Lovemore, aged 60, runs the bottle store where she worked. He found her body last Thursday morning after she went missing for several minutes during her shift.

The accident happened early in the morning, around 7:30, at Chineta Road Bottle Store, located at Munowenyu Business Centre. Agnes had been working alongside her brother Lovemore and her son Gift Bunjira, who is 30 years old. She walked to check something behind the store, where they kept a running generator but never returned from that area.

Lovemore became worried after she stayed away longer than expected. He walked back there looking for her, then discovered his sister lying face down directly on top of the running machine. When he grabbed her leg, trying to help, electricity shocked him through his body. He quickly turned off the power supply before yelling for assistance.

Both Lovemore and Gift rushed Agnes to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital, hoping doctors could save her. Unfortunately, medical staff declared her dead immediately upon arrival. Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, speaking for Manicaland Police, confirmed these facts about the tragic electrical accident that claimed her life.
