Police arrested a suspect who killed a constable at Sanyati station and linked him to the August murder of Ruwa businessman Joseph Mutangadura. Authorities identified Vengesai Jabulani Mutasa, 41, as the fourth person connected to the Mutangadura case after residents helped capture him. The same pistol killed both victims.
Detectives tracked Mutasa from Kadoma to Sanyati, where he rented accommodation. A confrontation at his residence left a tenant and a detective wounded before Mutasa escaped and attacked Constable Courage Muchechesi at the station on Sunday. He robbed another person of $5 before fleeing.
Community members from Chakari, Patchway, Kadoma and Sanyati worked together to locate the armed suspect. Three others already face court proceedings for the businessman's death. Officers shot Mutasa when they apprehended him and he remains hospitalized under guard.
Armed robbers killed Mutangadura on August 17 after attacking a guard and his son at their farmhouse. National police spokesman Paul Nyathi said investigators are continuing to gather evidence against all suspects involved in both crimes.
