Muttaqi gets UN travel pass to meet India officials

Afghanistan's Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will visit India from Oct. 9 through 16 after the United Nations Security Council Committee approved his travel exemption. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced the trip on Friday and stated that officials would provide updates as developments occur. Muttaqi will meet External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The visit follows months of diplomatic exchanges between New Delhi, and the Taliban regime. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri met Muttaqi in January, while Afghanistan's Deputy Minister of Medicine and Food visited the Indian capital last month for a pharmaceutical exhibition. India transported relief materials to Kunar province after an earthquake, and sent additional supplies through Chabahar port. Multiple Afghan officials traveled to New Delhi recently for consultations on strategic matters.
