Muvevi faces trial, court rules murder suspect fit after treatment

Jason Muvevi is heading back to court after doctors cleared him for trial following his stint at Chikurubi psychiatric ward, where he landed after getting diagnosed with mental illness back in 2023. The former cop faces five murder counts and three attempted murder charges from a wild shooting rampage that left multiple people dead.

The spree kicked off when he showed up at a religious gathering and shot a preacher in the head before taking off. Police tried stopping his vehicle on the highway, but he opened fire and killed the station commander plus wounded another officer. He then drove to a business center and killed someone else after chatting briefly before heading to a school where he fired shots but missed his target. Authorities eventually grabbed him across the border in Mozambique after he fled the country.
