Mzimba police stranded, one car left for entire district

Cops in Malawi's Mzimba district are basically stranded with just one working car for the whole area. This mess is crippling their ability to do anything, from showing up to crimes to handling emergencies across the huge, spread-out district. Officers are having to pick which calls to answer, leaving some reports hanging for way too long.

The single vehicle is getting run into the ground, and police are stuck walking or begging rides from other agencies. A local youth group leader, Reverend Moses Nkhana, straight up asked the national police chief to send at least one more vehicle their way, noting that stations in nearby Tanzania have like eight cars. People living there are worried the slow responses will just encourage more crime, especially at night or when the rains make dirt roads useless.
