NAFDAC shuts Kano skin-bleaching cream shops, six arrested

Nigerian drug officials closed several beauty shops that sold dangerous skin creams on Tuesday. The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control took action at Sabon Gari market area. Six people face arrest for selling products without approval. Kasim Ibrahim leads NAFDAC operations for Kano State and spoke about the raids. Social media posts helped start the investigation when people complained about harmful beauty treatments.

The banned creams promised quick skin changes but caused serious health problems. Many products contained substances that can cause cancer and permanent skin damage. Shop owners advertised these dangerous items as safe beauty treatments. NAFDAC agents worked undercover to gather evidence before making arrests. Laboratory tests will determine exactly what chemicals were inside the illegal products.

Officials sealed shop doors and will keep them closed during the investigation. The agency found people selling fake cosmetics without proper registration. Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye supports stronger enforcement against harmful beauty products. Ibrahim said profit-seeking sellers put customer lives at risk. NAFDAC plans to expand similar operations across Nigeria.

The coordinator asked citizens to stay alert and report suspicious beauty products. Media coverage helps warn people about dangerous cosmetics that lack safety approval. Public cooperation remains important as officials work to protect consumers. The agency monitors not just food and medicine but also beauty products that people use daily. Ibrahim thanked reporters for spreading awareness about these health risks.
