Namadingo's private COSOMA payout fails to quiet fan fury in Malawi

Musician Patience Namadingo received his royalty payment from the Copyright Society of Malawi through a private ceremony rather than the public State House event. President Lazarus Chakwera hosted the arts celebration, where other musicians received recognition. Namadingo addressed fan concerns through a Facebook statement explaining his preference for private presentation. He expressed gratitude for consistently ranking among the top ten artists while thanking supporters.

Public criticism continues despite Namadingo's clarification about receiving his payment. Fans expressed anger over his apparent exclusion from the presidential ceremony and questioned COSOMA's communication methods. The absence of musician Onesimus from the honors list sparked additional concerns about selection criteria. Artists like Eli Njuchi, Driemo, Zeze Kingston, Kell Kay, and Saint received payments between 15 and 23 million Kwacha.

COSOMA faces scrutiny over transparency and consistency in artist treatment. The organization has not issued formal responses to the mounting criticism from music fans and industry observers.
