Namibia has less water stored behind dams across the country. NamWater released numbers showing total storage fell to 1370 million cubic meters. The amount equals 88 percent of what all dams can hold when full. Water levels dropped from 1372 million cubic meters recorded at the end of May. Officials blame the decrease on normal weather changes and people using more water.
Some dams like Von Bach and Olushandja actually gained water during the same period. Central and southern areas lost the most water from their main storage sites. NamWater spokesman Lot Ndamanomhata says strong rains earlier helped fill most major dams. He warns that careful water management remains important as dry months approach. The water company asks everyone to use less water and watch their daily consumption.
