President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah asked Namibians to come together behind her leadership as they marked Cassinga Day. She spoke at an event Saturday night about the massacre that happened 47 years ago on May 4. South African forces killed around 600 Namibians when they attacked a Swapo base at Cassinga in southern Angola back in 1978.
The president called for national focus and unity. She urged people to support the eighth Swapo government administration during their push toward economic freedom for all citizens. Nandi-Ndaitwah asked Namibians to work harder to carry out the 2024 Swapo election promises at every level of government over the next five years.
She called on citizens to renew their commitment to values that helped them through hard times—discipline, shared purpose, strength, and deep love for the country. The president promised her government would change society, make life better for all Namibians, and deliver on what the freedom fighters sought. She said Cassinga's memory would shine as a guide as they built a unified, fair, peaceful, and wealthy Namibia.
