Narendra Modi surpasses Indira Gandhi with 4078 days as India's Prime Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi achieved a historic milestone Friday by serving 4,078 consecutive days in office. This achievement surpasses former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's record of 4,077 uninterrupted days from January 1966 to March 1977. Modi becomes India's second longest consecutively serving Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru. The leader holds multiple distinctions as the first Prime Minister born after Independence and the longest serving leader outside Congress party.

Modi represents the first leader outside Congress completing two full terms with consecutive reelections securing parliamentary majorities. He matches Nehru as the only Prime Minister winning three consecutive elections as party leader. The Prime Minister previously won six straight elections across Gujarat state leadership and national contests. Modi's political journey began in modest circumstances helping his father sell tea before advancing through RSS and BJP organizations. His tenure spans nearly 24 years leading democratically elected governments.
