National Cathedral's GHS 38M in donations go missing

Ghana spent $97 million on its National Cathedral construction before work halted in 2023. Felix Kwakye Ofosu revealed these figures during a Friday press conference at Jubilee House. The Communications Minister explained that this total covers all payments, commitments, and money owed to builders. Public estimates previously placed costs at $58 million, but an additional $39 million remains unpaid to contractors. Mobile money donations worth GHS38 million cannot be tracked due to transfer failures and lost documentation.

President John Dramani Mahama terminated the National Cathedral Secretariat on May 1, 2025. The Attorney General received orders to legally dissolve the Board of Trustees to prevent further financial losses. Government officials commissioned the Auditor-General to investigate the project through forensic examination. The previous Deloitte assessment failed to examine complete operations. These measures aim to address mounting concerns about the cathedral's financial impact on state resources.
