National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Set for July 1 Event

Ghana prepares for its first National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving on Tuesday. Elvis Afriyie Ankrah leads the planning committee and spoke to reporters on Monday. He confirmed that organizers have finished most preparations for the religious event. The committee has advertised the celebration through billboards and more than 30 radio and television stations. Faith leaders from different religions will help bring people together.

Christians will gather at the State House at 8 AM for their thanksgiving service. Cardinal Peter While Turkson will serve as the special guest speaker for the morning event. Muslims will meet later at the National Mosque for prayers at 12:30 PM. Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu will guide the afternoon religious ceremony. The committee chose these leaders to represent both major faiths.

Afriyie Ankrah said religious leaders across Ghana support the new national holiday. The planning team has worked with church heads and Muslim organizations to promote unity. The event aims to help the country heal from recent challenges. Officials want citizens to pray for better economic and political conditions. The theme asks people to reset their thinking and work toward national success.
