National Foods invests US$8.6 million in Bulawayo plants

National Foods Group has allocated $8.6 million toward facility improvements in Bulawayo as the agro-processing company prepares to pursue regional sales opportunities in the coming years, according to Group Chief Executive Officer Mike Lashbrook. The enterprise completed a $6.5 million Buhler wheat processing installation in 2023 that elevated daily capacity from 240 to 300 metric tons, with an additional $2.1 million directed toward packaging infrastructure.

Lashbrook indicated on Friday, following a facility inspection by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, that the organization has committed roughly $50 million since 2022 to modernize aging equipment and introduce product lines, including cereals and pasta. The company secured commitments for 80,000 metric tons from the 2025 winter wheat harvest to support domestic flour production and reduce import dependency.

The executive noted that enhanced agricultural efficiency positions the firm to eventually market biscuits and pasta beyond Zimbabwe's borders while currently concentrating on meeting internal consumption requirements.
