Nawazuddin praises theatre, Bandit Queen shines

Nawazuddin Siddiqui discussed acting techniques at the recent IFP convention in Mumbai. He shared the stage with filmmaker Aditya Kripalani for a session on his craft. The actor pointed to Bandit Queen as a pinnacle of authentic performance.

He credited that film's realism to its cast of theater actors. Siddiqui explained a key difference between stage and screen acting. He believes the stage demands explicit expression, while the camera captures subtle behavior.

The actor stressed the importance of theater for self-discovery. He feels every performer should explore India's diverse theatrical forms. The 1994 film Bandit Queen was based on the life of Phoolan Devi and directed by Shekhar Kapur.
