NBM tosses K150m at thousands of desperate MUBAS kids

National Bank of Malawi committed 150 million kwacha on Friday to the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences Endowment Fund, which provides scholarships and research support for students facing financial barriers to education. Harold Jiya, the bank's chief executive officer, said the contribution addresses challenges that threaten academic completion for many learners while recognizing universities' role in national development. The bank established management guidelines to ensure accountability and attract future investments to the fund, which launched last year as a sustainable financing mechanism for disadvantaged students.

Professor Nancy Chitera, the MUBAS vice chancellor, said the donation affirms confidence in the institution's direction and offers long-term solutions to student challenges. Nearly half of the university's 10,000 enrolled students struggle with severe financial difficulties that jeopardize their academic progress and future prospects. The endowment fund supports scholarships, research initiatives, and innovation programs for students who lack adequate resources to complete their degrees.
