National Blood Service Zimbabwe collected 979 units during a countrywide donation campaign that offered participants a 5-liter fuel voucher through a partnership with Redan Petroleum. Chief executive Lucy Marowa praised the initiative's success, noting collections at four locations: 176 units at Redan Zindoga in Harare, 198 at Redan Msasa, 292 at Redan Makokoba in Bulawayo, and 313 at Redan Main Street in Gweru.
The organization will launch Youth Donor Month in December, targeting young people across cities and towns with free t-shirts and entertainment to discourage substance abuse while building blood reserves. Equipment for in-house printing will enable the production of shirts for donors who have given 25 times.
Marowa urged corporations to implement similar incentive programs and called on drivers to exercise caution during the holiday period, when traffic accidents typically strain blood supply levels.
