NCAC boss Ceesay warns Gambia museum staff to step up

Madrid-based International Council of Museums completed its three-day digital workshop for emerging heritage workers on Thursday. The program ran from July 15 through July 17 and attracted dozens of young professionals from museums and cultural institutions across Africa. Twenty employees from Gambia's National Centre for Arts and Culture joined colleagues from private galleries and community organizations.

Hassoum Ceesay from NCAC opened the sessions by describing ICOM as a worldwide network that connects museum professionals. He urged Gambian staff to pursue additional training opportunities in heritage management. Mamat Sallah from NCAC's Cultural Heritage department thanked organizers and encouraged participants to seek individual ICOM memberships.

Workshop leaders presented sessions on management strategies and youth involvement in African heritage protection. Participants explored ways young professionals can support ICOM and UNESCO missions. Break discussions examined visitor tracking methods, customer service approaches, and preservation techniques for Gambian sites. Representatives from Botswana, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Benin also attended the virtual event.
