Netball Cup scores K40M surplus, boosts Malawi’s hosting rep

The group that ran Malawi's recent big netball tournament says they actually made money on the event. The Local Organizing Committee chair, Limbani Matola, reported a 40 million kwacha surplus, which will now go straight to the sport's governing body, NAM. They managed the whole thing on a 650 million kwacha budget.

Matola called the African Netball Cup a major win, saying the country beat the doubters and even got props from the sport's world body for how well it was run. The government kicked in an initial 243 million to get things started, with companies covering the rest. He said the event was good for local businesses too, helping hotels and restaurants. A government rep named MacMillan Mwale pointed to the teamwork between officials and sponsors as a model for future games.
