A Harare magistrate just tossed fraud charges against NetOne's chief executive engineer, Raphael Mushanawani, after prosecutors claimed he ran a sketchy US$1.2 million scheme. Regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa said the company knew about every system upgrade he handled and there was zero evidence connecting him to any crime.
The whole mess started when investigators thought Mushanawani secretly hired Lunartech Solutions to upgrade a SAGE 1000 accounting platform that NetOne was already replacing with new software from Farevic Systems. His lawyer, Admire Rubaya, basically said investigators had no clue how tech operations work at mobile carriers and that the board signed off on upgrading SAGE to the L200 version because vendor support was ending.
The state also accused him of paying Diztech nearly US$80,000 for services already covered under another contract, but his legal team said NetOne never even had a deal with Diztech or paid them anything.
