New chess boss vows to checkmate stagnation

Uganda's chess scene just got a leadership shake-up after Andrew Bakiza won the presidency with 14 votes at the Annual General Meeting. The fresh executive team is taking over from Eng. Emmanuel Mwaka, who ran things for eight years, and they're supposed to guide the federation for the next four years. Other people who got elected were Mande Allan Benjamin as vice president, Okas Walter as general secretary, Muwanguzi David handling money stuff, and Nakiirya Victoria repping women's affairs.

The old crew managed to bump Uganda Chess up from Tier 3 to Tier 2, which means more funding and better development opportunities. Bakiza said he wants to keep that momentum going while pushing for more transparency and grassroots programs. The whole transition went down pretty smoothly, and everyone seems hyped about where things are headed.
