NFTR and SSHFC train Gambian journalists on social security reporting and digitalisation

The Network of Tax and Financial Reporters collaborated with the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation to conduct journalist training sessions. Dozens of media professionals attended the Thursday workshop at Nana Conference Hall in Bakau. The program focused on teaching participants about SSHFC operations and digital transformation initiatives. NFTR President Abdoulie Nyockeh explained that the training aimed to improve accurate reporting on social protection matters. The partnership seeks to enhance public awareness through better media coverage of SSHFC services.

Nyockeh emphasized that transparent tax payment reporting between government, businesses, and tax authorities remains the network's primary goal. The Voice Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Musa Sheriff praised SSHFC as the most media-friendly institution. He suggested that newspapers should dedicate special sections to financial institution coverage. Gambia Press Union representative Alieu Ceesay supported the training initiative for specialized financial reporting. The network emerged following continental media training conducted in Kigali, Rwanda during 2019.
