Nigeria Gears Up High Tech Medical Simulation Boom

Emmanuel Ogunyemi worked for the Lagos State government, but broke the corruption laws badly. He collected paychecks from two different government offices simultaneously, which was illegal. The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board paid him monthly wages. Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area also gave him salary payments. Anti-corruption investigators caught him stealing 3.4 million naira from taxpayers.

ICPC charged Ogunyemi with eight different corruption crimes under federal laws. Lagos State High Court heard his case after prosecutors filed the charges. He made a deal with the lawyers to significantly reduce his punishment. The original eight charges were reduced to three under the agreement. Ogunyemi admitted his guilt to all three corruption charges.

Justice Ijelu sentenced him to pay 1.5 million naira, but avoided sending him to prison. Community service officers will supervise him for three days of public work. He signed a 5 million naira good behavior bond promising future compliance. Ogunyemi has already returned all the stolen money to the government recovery accounts. Federal authorities will keep the returned funds permanently.
