Nine vie for Nkulumane seat

Nine candidates have been officially nominated to compete in a parliamentary by-election for the Nkulumane constituency in Bulawayo. The election, scheduled for December 20, was necessitated by the death of the incumbent representative, Desire Moyo, in a vehicle accident.

The candidates include individuals from various political parties and independents. The field consists of Freedom Murechu from Zanu PF, Mothusi Ndlovu representing the Citizens Coalition for Change, and Ethel Sibanda of the MDC-T. Other contenders are Nompilo Ncube Malaba from ZANC, Alson Moyo from the Zimbabwe Economic Freedom Fighters, and Siziba Viyo Vivian from ZAPU. Three independent candidates, Esther Auxilia Zitha, Rodney Donovan Jele, and Mbuso Fuzwayo, will also be on the ballot.

Several candidates stated that they were encouraged to run by community members, suggesting a closely contested race. A Zimbabwe Electoral Commission official acknowledged that managing an election with nine candidates would be a considerable task, but confirmed the nomination process was completed without significant issues.
