Ninety people were named in the Faridpur blockade case, as the Algi Union chief was arrested

Authorities charged 90 individuals and 150 unidentified persons after repeated transportation blockades disrupted Bhanga upazila in Faridpur district. Sub-inspector Habibur Rahman submitted the complaint late Sunday under the Speedy Trial Act provisions. MM Siddiq Mia faces primary charges as chairman of Algi Union Parishad and movement coordinator. Detective forces apprehended him Saturday night from Chandhat union in Nagarkanda upazila. Hamirdi Union Parishad chairman Md Khokon Mia received secondary charges.

Demonstrators blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Swadi on September 11 under Siddiq Mia's leadership. Protesters toppled trees and ignited tires while displaying aggressive behavior toward authorities. The unrest began when the Election Commission transferred Algi and Hamirdi unions from Faridpur-4 constituency to neighboring Faridpur-2 through an August 4 gazette. Residents have organized multiple protests since the boundary changes, disrupting travel for 21 southern districts through highway and railway blockades.
