The boss of Nigeria's state oil company, NNPC Ltd., says they are totally committed to working things out peacefully in Ogoniland. Engineer Bayo Ojulari made these comments during a federal government trip to the area in Rivers State. He framed the visit as a sign of hope and a fresh start built on working together. The company's head of communications, Andy Odeh, relayed the message, which also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's focus on rebuilding trust.
Ojulari acknowledged the difficult history there but said understanding the past is needed to make a better future. He shouted out the Presidential Committee on Ogoni Re-entry, led by Professor Don Baridam, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, for their work. The NNPC Ltd. leader stressed their goal in the region is not just about pulling oil out of the ground. He said it also has to protect the environment and help local communities thrive. As part of that, he confirmed the hiring process for 30 people from Ogoni is basically done, with job offers sent out and start dates set for early 2026.
Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara thanked the president for sticking with the issue. He listed several promises being acted on, like building roads, and mentioned the 30 new NNPC Ltd. jobs as a concrete example. Representing the president, Security Adviser Ribadu thanked the governor and Ogoni leaders for their cooperation. He noted Rivers State has become much more peaceful lately. The whole situation revolves around a major oil block, OML 11, which is operated by an NNPC Ltd. subsidiary and sits mostly on Ogoni land.
