No happy ending for missing police squad in Benue

Search teams recovered the remains of eight police officers who went missing after Friday's assault on security forces at the Agu Centre. The location is situated on the boundary between Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas in Benue State. Dr. Justin Shaku, who serves as Chairman of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, confirmed the discovery during a briefing with journalists on Monday in Makurdi. The recovered bodies raise the total casualty count to eleven officers, which consists of ten police personnel and one member of the Benue State Community Protection Guard. Armed attackers had targeted the security team during operations near the border region.

The assault resulted in the immediate fatalities of three officers, while eight others disappeared during the confrontation. Emergency response teams conducted extensive searches across the affected area before locating the missing personnel. The incident represents one of the deadliest attacks on law enforcement in the region this year. Security agencies continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter with the unidentified assailants.
