No Rest for the Wicked may skip Xbox as Moon Studios eyes PlayStation 5 first

Moon Studios considers releasing No Rest for the Wicked exclusively on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2 before bringing the title to Xbox platforms. Game Director Thomas Mahler cited current market dynamics as the primary factor behind this strategic decision. The Austrian developer plans to evaluate discussions with Microsoft regarding Xbox support at a later date. Business mathematics favor Sony's console given its substantially larger player base compared to Microsoft's hardware. Moon Studios will eventually launch across all platforms but expects staggered release schedules.

The action role-playing game debuted on PC through early access during April 2024 under Private Division's publishing banner. Moon Studios subsequently reacquired full publishing rights to maintain greater creative and financial control over the project. The studio faces financial pressures that drive prioritization toward more profitable console markets. Xbox console sales continue declining as Microsoft distributes first-party titles across multiple platforms. This strategy paradoxically undermines the same platform where Moon Studios achieved success with their acclaimed Ori series.
