Nokia to power Medusa cable linking Europe and North Africa with high-speed fiber

Nokia will supply technology for the Medusa Submarine Cable System through AFR-IX Telecom ownership. The underwater fiber-optic network spans from the Atlantic coast to the Mediterranean Sea and Red Sea regions. This infrastructure establishes a major digital pathway connecting North African nations with European markets. The cable system bridges Morocco, Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, and Egypt through advanced telecommunications links. Regional connectivity improves significantly through this cross-continental project.

The open-access design allows multiple telecommunications companies to utilize the network services effectively. Medusa supports emerging technologies like 5G networks, cloud computing platforms, and artificial intelligence applications. Nokia provides its 1830 GX Series equipment and ICE7 coherent optics for optimal performance. The system transmits tens of terabits per second through each fiber pair connection. Advanced engineering delivers high-capacity data transfer with minimal delays and efficient power consumption across the submarine cable infrastructure.
