NPA CEO highlights job creation potential of 24-hour economy policy

Ghana's petroleum chief says the country can make more money from its natural resources through a new government plan. Godwin Edudzi Tamaklo leads the National Petroleum Authority and believes the 24-hour economy program will change everything. The policy wants businesses to run three work shifts every day instead of just one. Companies that join this program will pay less taxes to the government. Tamaklo thinks this approach will give young people better job opportunities.

The official explained that Ghana sends cocoa beans to other countries but never makes chocolate itself. Switzerland and other nations turn those beans into expensive candy bars and keep most profits. Gold mining works the same way because Ghana digs up the metal but other places make jewelry from it. The new policy wants local factories to create finished products that sell around the world. Shoppers in America and Europe should see Ghanaian brand names on store shelves.

President John Dramani Mahama started this economic program on July 2nd during a special ceremony. He said the plan brings back ideas from Ghana's first president Kwame Nkrumah who wanted the country to build its manufacturing sector. The government hopes more factories will open and hire workers for night shifts. Business leaders can apply for tax breaks if they promise to operate around the clock. This strategy should help Ghana compete better against other African nations.
