Ghana's 24-Hour Economy Aims to Create 1.7 Million Jobs by 2027

Ghana plans to create 1.7 million new jobs through its 24-Hour Economy program over the next four years. Abdul-Nasser Suglo Alidu from the government's special team told reporters about the massive job creation plan on Monday. President Mahama will officially start the program on Wednesday July 2nd at a big ceremony. The National Democratic Congress promised during election campaigns to give young people more work opportunities through round-the-clock business operations. Government officials have built safety rules and worker protection measures into the new system.

Many Ghanaians think the 24-Hour Economy means people will only work night shifts at factories and offices. Abdul-Nasser explained the program covers much more than late-night jobs across different business sectors. Companies will use flexible work schedules and special support systems rather than forcing everyone to stay awake all night. Each industry will follow its specific model based on what works best for that type of business. The government wants to boost productivity during different times of day instead of making blanket rules for everyone.

The program will change how Ghana's entire economy operates from farms to banks to schools. Abdul-Nasser said the country needs to rethink how it makes products and delivers services beyond normal business hours. The plan aims to create continuous work opportunities and help local companies compete better with foreign businesses. Government leaders want to solve problems like too few jobs and depending heavily on imported goods from other countries.
