NRM Faces Internal Clash as Mukula and Oboth Trade Barbs Ahead of Elections

Two leaders from Uganda's ruling party have started fighting over an important position. Captain Mike Mukula serves as Eastern Region Vice Chairperson for the National Resistance Movement. Defence Minister Jacob Oboth Oboth wants to challenge him for the same job. Radio stations and social media spread rumors that Oboth had quit the race to help Mukula. Voice of Teso FM broadcast these claims across the region.

Oboth became angry about the false reports and posted messages online. He said people were spreading lies to make him look bad and stop other candidates from running. The minister blamed Mukula and his supporters for creating fake stories about him stepping down. Oboth accused them of using dishonest methods to win votes. He promised to continue his campaign despite the attacks against him.

Mukula fired back at Oboth with harsh words about greed and power hunger. He questioned how one person could want to be a minister, member of parliament, and party vice chair at the same time. Mukula called this behavior selfish rather than fair competition. His campaign helper Bernard Eumu supported these statements and called the situation a conspiracy. Several other candidates are also running for the eastern region leadership position.

Political experts believe this fight shows deeper problems within the ruling party. The conflict could affect regional power balance and national politics. Both men plan to stay in the race despite their public disagreements.
