NRM Files Petition Over Kawempe North Election

The NRM party, along with Faridah Nambi Kigongo, has challenged Elias Nalukoola's win in the Kawempe North election. Their lawyers from Crane Associated Advocates filed a case arguing that the Electoral Commission broke the rules. They claim results from 14 polling stations with 16,640 registered voters were missing when officials declared Nalukoola the winner with 17,939 votes. The legal team believes these missing votes could have changed who won.

The court papers also accuse Nalukoola of cheating through campaign activities on voting day itself. His team allegedly blocked voters, interfered with election staff, and handed out cash before and during voting. The election became famous for its disorder and fighting at polling places. Opposition groups said government security forces attacked their helpers and created fear among voters.

NUP leader Lewis Rubongoya complained about police using tear gas and arresting their supporters unfairly. He described the election as heavily controlled by military presence in urban areas. The lawyers have started delivering legal papers to everyone involved in the case. Courts will examine both the missing votes problem and claims about violence during the entire election process.
