Nsanje health staff protest K1000 welfare deductions

Healthcare employees in Nsanje have protested automatic monthly deductions of K1,000 from their wages, which authorities are directing toward the Social Welfare Fund without proper consultation. Affected staff members include cleaners, hospital attendants, ground laborers, and clinical personnel who described the salary cuts as demoralizing and indicative of inadequate communication from management.

Workers appealed for transparent dialogue regarding the contributions, arguing that their essential responsibilities in medical service provision warrant clearer explanations about financial obligations. Ministry of Health representatives at Nsanje Council have not addressed the complaints or justified the wage reductions, highlighting broader governance challenges within Malawi's public health system.
