Nujoma Remembered as a Freedom Fighter

The Landless People's Movement spokesperson Lifalaza Simataa honored Sam Nujoma's legacy as a freedom fighter following the founding president's death in Windhoek on Saturday.

Simataa issued a statement Sunday recognizing Nujoma's vital role in Namibia's liberation struggle, placing him among the nation's celebrated heroes and heroines. He cited Nujoma's place in history alongside notable figures such as Toivo ya Toivo, Emil Apollus, Mishake Muyongo, Peter Nanyemba, and Hendrik Witbooi. The LPM extended condolences to Nujoma's family, the Swapo party, and the Namibian people.

The LPM Youth Command offered additional praise through their spokesperson, William Minnie, who characterized Nujoma as a militant revolutionary. Minnie emphasized that Nujoma's passing marks both the loss of a towering figure and the end of an era that shaped Namibian political awareness.

"Dr Sam Nujoma led through action, not mere words. His revolutionary spirit emerged from the struggles he faced, standing firm against colonial control. His dedication to our nation's freedom remains clear," Minnie said. "He fought for justice with unwavering determination. His impact as the father of our nation will continue through generations."

Minnie noted that Namibia's path to complete liberation remains unfinished. He stressed that genuine tributes to Nujoma must acknowledge that political independence has yet to bring economic freedom to many citizens. The LPM Youth Command believes the system Nujoma helped overthrow transformed rather than disappeared, leaving numerous Namibians facing economic hardship and social inequities.
