NUPRC, NMDPRA team up to untangle oil and gas regulation

Nigeria's oil regulators are finally trying to work together instead of against each other. The Upstream Commission and the Midstream Authority pledged deeper cooperation to fix overlapping rules and attract investment. They agreed to form liaison teams and hold regular joint meetings during a high-level discussion in Abuja.

The Commission Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, called the sector the nation's economic heartbeat. She stated seamless collaboration between the two bodies is indispensable for growth. She noted the sometimes blurry lines between upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.

Eyesan invited the Authority to support an ongoing licensing round for fifty oil and gas blocks. She extended a formal invitation for the chief executive to attend a pre-bid conference in Lagos. This move aims to present a unified regulatory front to potential investors.

The Authority Chief Executive, Engr. Saidu Aliyu Mohammed emphasized their shared history as successors to the old petroleum resources department. He advocated for stronger familial relations between the agencies. He urged that any differences should be settled internally and amicably.
