NVIDIA launched its GeForce RTX 5050 laptop graphics card today. The company lifted sales restrictions for laptop makers who want to use the new chip. Chinese manufacturers can begin selling laptops with this graphics processor immediately. The RTX 5050 joins NVIDIA's newest family of gaming chips for portable computers. Laptop companies have waited months to offer this affordable graphics option to customers.
The RTX 5050 contains 2560 processing cores and uses NVIDIA's GB207 chip design. Engineers equipped the graphics card with 8 gigabytes of GDDR7 memory running through a 128-bit connection. The processor consumes 115 watts of power during peak usage. Memory speed reaches 384 gigabytes per second, matching the more expensive RTX 5060 model. The graphics card delivers the same core count as its desktop version that arrives later this summer.
Mechrevo and ASUS became the first companies to sell laptops with the new graphics chip. The Mechrevo Kuangshi X laptop starts at $913 and includes an Intel Core i7 processor. ASUS offers its TianXuan 6 model with similar specifications and pricing. Both laptops cost just $30 to $40 less than comparable systems with RTX 5060 graphics cards. This narrow price gap may challenge sales for the entry-level model.
Performance tests show the RTX 5050 beats the previous RTX 4050 model by about 10 percent. The new chip scores 10,269 points during Time Spy benchmark testing. However, the RTX 5050 runs roughly 18 percent slower than the RTX 5060 graphics card. Ray tracing performance improves 27 percent compared to the older RTX 4050 design. NVIDIA plans to release the desktop version of this graphics card on July 1st.
