Nxangisa hails Ntombela for selfless leadership

ANC member Thembeni Skully Nxangisa praised former Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela for facilitating a smooth leadership transition within provincial party structures on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2025. He credited her willingness to step aside with preventing internal divisions and maintaining organizational focus on public service. The tribute compared her dedication to themes in Roy Campbell's poem about maternal sacrifice.

Ntombela led the province from 2018 to 2023, following Ace Magashule's resignation amid corruption allegations. Statistics South Africa data showed unemployment declined from 38.1 percent to 33.8 percent between 2021 and 2023. Nxangisa attributed economic gains to agricultural programs and infrastructure investments despite limited provincial resources.

The former premier cleared the path for Mxolisi Dukwana to assume office as part of renewal efforts following the 2024 elections. The party retained majority support in the Free State, where it was founded in 1912. Nxangisa dismissed predictions that the transition would destabilize regional operations and expressed confidence that Ntombela would continue serving in other capacities.
