Nyeri MP Mathenge takes role of slain lawmaker Ong'ondo Were

Duncan Mathenge from Nyeri Town secured the Vice Chairperson position on the National Assembly's Cohesion and Equal Opportunities Committee without opposition. Lucy Kimathi from the General Purposes Department conducted the parliamentary election after Mathenge submitted the only nomination papers. The vacancy arose after Kasipul MP Ong'ondo Were died from gunshot wounds near City Mortuary roundabout during April. Committee Chairperson Adan Yussuf Haji from Mandera West praised Mathenge's previous service and expressed confidence in his capabilities. Fellow members unanimously supported the appointment, with Nakuru County MP Liza Chelule highlighting the collective agreement and Baringo South's Charles Kamuren proposing a courtesy visit to Were's family during future Nyanza activities.
