Nyoro calls Epra's one shilling fuel cut a cruel joke in Kenya

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro dismissed the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority's recent fuel price adjustment as meaningless for struggling citizens. The regulator cut petrol and kerosene prices by one shilling each while diesel remained constant at previous levels. Current Nairobi pump prices stand at 185.31 shillings for super petrol, 171.58 shillings for diesel, and 155.58 shillings for kerosene. Nyoro addressed graduates at Gorgeous Technical Institute in Thika Town during his Friday remarks. The legislator argued that one shilling holds no purchasing power in modern Kenya.

The MP highlighted the disparity between price increases and decreases implemented by the authority. During the July-August period, officials raised fuel costs by approximately nine shillings per liter across different categories. Nyoro contended that Kenya maintains the region's highest fuel prices despite neighboring countries accessing petroleum through Kenyan ports. He attributed this problem to excessive taxation and government levies imposed on petroleum products. The politician warned that proposed highway toll stations would further damage Kenya's economic competitiveness.
