ODM crew gets back to work till case rules

A court stepped in to help ODM party workers who lost their jobs. The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal blocked the firing of election coordinators after lawyer Ashioya Biko asked them to step in. These workers can go back to their jobs right away until the court makes its final decision. The ruling hurts plans by the ODM Central Committee, which had kicked out all National Elections Committee Coordinators from running upcoming party votes.

Desma Nungo, who heads the tribunal, agreed with Ashioya's request for fast action. The court order stops changes to Nairobi City County election coordinators who started work last November. ODM leaders decided to fire these workers at their April 2 meeting. Both sides must show up for a court date on April 23 at 2:30 p.m.

Edwin Sifuna defended why the party fired these workers. As ODM Secretary General, he claimed they needed new people to ensure fair elections. The firings affected workers in three counties: Nairobi, Siaya, and Migori. He promised new coordinators would take over these jobs very soon. The party plans to announce these replacements through its election committee.

Party voting starts again on April 7 at the ward level. These votes build on earlier elections from last November, when members picked leaders at polling stations. The party calls this next step "sub-branch" elections. The court gave fired workers seven days to explain their side of the story. Until then, the original team keeps working despite what party bosses want.
