Ofori Amponsah, Fredyma settle music feud

Highlife artist Ofori Amponsah and sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah have settled their public dispute about who connected Amponsah with music star Daddy Lumba. The pair appeared together on Joy Prime TV with host Andy Dosty after social media erupted over Amponsah's recent radio comments that seemed to diminish Kyei Mensah's role in launching his career.

Both men confirmed that Kyei Mensah produced the demonstration recordings that brought Amponsah to Lumba's attention in the late 1990s. The confusion arose because Kyei Mensah had introduced Amponsah to Lumba and later went with him to deliver the cassettes, but Amponsah had already visited Lumba independently beforehand and reached preliminary agreements without Kyei Mensah knowing.

Kyei Mensah, known professionally as Fredyma, said his involvement centered solely on producing the demos and never extended to any contractual arrangements. He recalled taking Amponsah to an audition at the National Museums and Monuments Board in June 1993 and revealed that Amponsah recorded two albums at his studio before achieving mainstream success with Lumba in 1999. Fredyma expressed satisfaction that the matter had been resolved amicably.
