Okahandja rallies with police to tackle GBV, scams

Law enforcement officials and Okahandja residents collaborated during a two-day initiative aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence, digital fraud and trafficking crimes. Events held on Thursday and on Friday at Rakatuka Soccer Field and the FiveRand informal settlement attracted participants eager to learn protective measures for themselves and their families.

Chief Inspector Mathias Tjarimba, who commands the local station, stressed that combating criminal activity demands cooperation between citizens and authorities. He called on community members to report incidents of violence against neighbors rather than remaining silent about perpetrators. Senior Inspector Gabriel Paxola from the cybercrime unit cautioned residents about scammers impersonating officers and requesting money transfers under pretenses.

Deputy Commissioner Cathrine Walaula from the protection division urged people to share information about illegal drug operations and other crimes instead of waiting for government intervention. Resident Anna Fredricks said the campaign helped her understand how silence allows criminal behavior to escalate. Pensioner Ben Mbariko emphasized parental responsibility in questioning suspicious items their children bring home and encouraged stronger men to partner with police in addressing neighborhood crime.
