Okwara Throws In Towel As Kananu Wins Again

Citizen TV journalist Yvonne Okwara accepted defeat after losing the Kenya Editors Guild president race to Standard Group's Zubeida Kananu. She released a statement acknowledging the democratic choice made by guild members. Okwara expressed pride about her campaign message focused on renewal and credibility. The journalist said her effort aimed to restore the guild's voice and standards. She congratulated the new leadership team and wished them success during their upcoming two-year term.

Okwara thanked supporters who believed in her candidacy and in creating a better organization. She promised to continue working toward the values that motivated her campaign. The losing candidate emphasized her commitment to integrity and transparency. She also stressed the importance of strengthening editorial independence across Kenya. Okwara urged the incoming leaders to unite the guild and rebuild trust among members.

Kananu secured her position again after receiving 72 votes during virtual elections held on Saturday. Okwara came second with 58 votes in the online voting process. Francis Openda will serve as deputy president under Kananu's leadership. The guild also elected representatives for different media sectors during the same election. Martin Masai, Ruth Nesoba, and Mbugua Ng'ang'a won trustee positions.
